Jordan Minder

Jordan is the grandson of Don & Deirdre Hollingshead ( both members of Post #261).  Jordan was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation; a rare congenital structural abnormality where excess cerebellum pushed against the point where the brainstem exits the skull and pushed into the spinal cord in the spinal column.  This crowding causes neurological symptoms such as headaches, chronic coughing and swallowing difficulty.  Jordan is scheduled for Brain Decompression Surgery on Sept. 17, 2010 at Riley’s Childrens Hospital in Indianapolis.

The Benefit will beheld Sept. 5, 2010 at the Eagles 805 Elm Street, Valparaiso, IN  from 12 pm to 8 pm

$10 donation includes food, games, DJ, 50/50, raffles, kids games, bake sale and much more.  Please come help support this family.

Since retiring and closing of the studios as well as the web hosting, I have been able to put much time into The American Legion, Post 261 of Cedar Lake, Indiana. I am a former Finance Officer and Historian and also still on the Executive Board.

As a Veteran of the Viet Nam era, I enjoy 2 areas afforded me in The American Legion. First as a Legionnaire and also being a motorcycle rider, as a member of its American Legion Riders!

This past weekend, the Legion Riders of various posts were invited by the UAW Local 588 out of Illinois to volunteer with the Vets Day X annual BBQ. This day is afforded all the residents of Manteno, Illinois Veterans Home.

This event is looked forward to by the administrators of the home as well as its residents. For any of you that have never donated your time and heart to a day, this is one of the finest ways you could do it.

As a vet in the legion, I do many functions including Color Guard and Honor Guard at our soldiers ( old and young ) burials . Rarely do I get the honor to do as I did at Vets Day X of partnering with an old soldier for a day that means the world to them. It is as heart wrenching as it is enjoyable and I would not have missed it for the world!

To all those who were no present at the ALR District meeting on 4/17/2010,  Smitty was appointed by 1st District Legion to be be the new liaison.  We will now have a 1st District ALR.  Smitty needs people to fill positions by June 1, 2010 so if anyone is interested please contact Smitty at Post #485 or you may e-mail me at alrsecretary@alpost261.org and I will forward the information to him.
